Travel experiences: Italy – Part 1

It was a opportunity and a experience that will not be forgotten. My husband had been offer to coach baseball in Italy for nine months and I could travel with him. It was not the baseball that interest me but the time I would have in Italy. So traveling from southern California to Italy and having the time to see so much I came. Italy a place of good food, excellent wine and over whelming hospitality. We stay in Emilia Romania, near Ravenna, home of mosaics, in a small city called a village which was Godo. Everyone knew everyone and everything that was going on. The area was mostly agricultural. I watched the season change of the land around Godo. The grape vineyards were barren when I came in April and by august truckloads of grapes were hanging over the trucks going down the streets. I was surrounded by peaches, plumes, olives, cornfields, sunflowers and grapes. Traveling around Italy was easy. We took the train Bologna to Venice in one day. We traveled to Florence over the mountains taking in the wondrous vineyards and old homes in the mountains. I flew to Paris and spend a week there enjoying the Lob,Eiffel tower and Notre Dame. We drove through the tips of the Alps in Austria to Germany. There is so much to see. In every town or city you will see church steeples towering above the buildings, and almost every town or city have what I call a town Square.

I had not seem so many people on bikes as I have here in Italy. Young and old, shopping, going to work, or just taking that daily ride. I realize through my stay that the elderly here did not sit around, they got out the men would be at the cafe bar while most of the women would go to Wednesday night bingo. I have traveled to many cities here in Italy and the transportation by train makes it so worth it. I love shopping in the market although I had to be aware of the time for most places close for siesta at 12:30. But all in all I have learned how to make pasta, lemoncello, ugly but good cookies. I have learned that the Italians live long and treasure family and friends. Now that my time to return to the states is here I know I have learned how to live in a different culture and to take back some of my experiences with the Italian families. We are returning next year for six months and I know I still can visit Rome next year. So Italy to me was the center of my European travel, Frankfurt, Tuscany, Venice, Florence,France, and the joy of its people.
