Summer travel destinations for great food

I can advice Italy, the whole Italy, to find excellent food and a huge of typical recipes and food product.

This not only because I’m Italian; I could make some confrontations with other national or local gastronomies and also many people from abroad had clearly admitted it.

Only for the cultivated rice, there’re 38 different varieties of rice, often very rare, original of Italy and cultivated here and the same is true for all the other agriculture and food products.

VARIETY and FANTASY are the great richness of Italian food and EVERY little town can offer, at least, one typical speciality.

The quality, in the average, is good and sometimes excellent, excluding many of the industrial mass products, also produced in Italy, as it happens in all the rest of the world.

If you want to eat well in Italy, you mustn’t go in a fast-food or in a self-service restaurant.

You’re already doing it in all the rest of the world!

Restaurants, pizzerie, osterie, trattorie, agriturismi (touristic farms) and so on are very, very much and it’s not always easy to choose by yourself, if you’re a tourist, a place in which eat well without paying a fortune.

It’s better to ask to local people, to consult good guides, like the Michelin Guide, for ex. and to look carefully, (for prices) the menu exposed outside the restaurant and pizzeria.

It’s better not to eat just in the centre of the famous artistic town you’re visiting, like Venice or Rome, for not being “peeled”, without

eating well; walk or drive a little farther from the center or to a little town around the main town.

When I made the tourist in Venice, that is known as a very expensive place, I could save myself from a money hemorrage going to buy my food in the food shops frequented by Venice people, where normally tourists don’t arrive.

I found a lunch “in the sack”, made of cheese and bread, fruits, a pizza slice, cream or chocolate sweets and so on at low costs.

Remember that, in Italy, the great variety of food specialities can allow you to eat well, following a balanced diet, poor of fats and sugars, but, on the opposite, to grow fat like a pig, eating every sort of sweets, cakes, meat and fish plates; many of them are good, but they’re CALORIC BOMBS for you.

It’s up to you to choose and here it’s possible.

Then, if you’re put up by friends of yours or in a family, it’s very easy that they cook very well, even better and safely than in restaurants, because food culture is today widespread, despite the great diffusion of junk, “industrial” food.

Personally, I’m VEGETARIAN and I don’t have any problem to choose what I need to eat well, in the range of what is called “Mediterranean diet”.
