The spirit of Venice is romantic and together with its friendly people the city is one of the most beautiful and interesting places not only in Europe, but also in the world.
Situated in the Venetian Lagoon along the Adriatic Sea in northeast Italy, this romantic city attracts the tourists with its beauty, elegance, rich history and culture year after year. The time you can spend here is relaxing and you can enjoy lots of things-art, music, cultural and historical buildings, shops, cafes and a walk by gondola.
But the most important thing for me is that from every corner of Venice, there is such a strange feeling of freedom that cannot be explained. For example, the pigeons! I sat an hour at San Marco Square and fed them enjoying their beauty. They were so different in size and colors but one thing linked them:the freedom.
Venice is very colorful and this contributes to its nice atmosphere. Please, be not surprised that almost all the vehicles here are boats; buses, taxis are boats and this makes the city look funny.
Why is Venice so interesting?! Perhaps, because of the fact that the buildings here are constructed on closely spaced wood piles imported from Russia. The foundations rest on the piles, and buildings of brick or stone sit above these footings. The water streets in Venice are so fascinating. The streets and the old houses know many secrets and mysterious stories and if you are a good listener they could whisper you some of them.
Everybody who is in Venice has to take a Gondola. Being in Venice and not taking a Gondola is pity. The Gondoliers sing so beautifully and one can feel like he or she is in a fairy tale, back in old Venetian times.
I wondered when I heard that the Bridge of Sighs is not a bridge connected with love story as I previously thought but the name means that “the prisoners who passed through it on their way to the prison cells on the other side would most likely see the beautiful sight of the lagoon and the Island of San Georgio and freedom for last time.”
Being in Venice and not visiting one of the richest and most precious altar screens in the world in San Marco`s Cathedral is impossible! I liked the medieval mosaics, depicting stories from the Old and New Testaments. For me they are a sign of God`s presence in the world.
I spent hours by visiting Doge`s Palace and Correr Museum and enjoyed wonderful time by seeing different collections of ancient art or getting acquainted with the history of Venice.
After so many sight seeings and experiences it is such a pleasure to drink a cup of coffee at the cafe Florian (one of the city`s symbols) and to have a look at the Venetian people who are so friendly.
Venice is a dream for many people seeking a romantic atmosphere. Please, do not lose time and go to this special, beautiful, romantic place!
